FOCUS

Humans have been making things since the beginning of time and have been inspired to create not only functional pieces, but also things of beauty. The Gathering Skills Art Program explores primarily ancestral and primitive art and craft practices with a focus on using natural materials and time-honored methods. Practices covered may include ceramics, printmaking, fibers, leather-craft, jewelry making and more. Practical skills including basic drawing and using a sketchbook as a tool for planning and imagining will also be incorporated.

Nature is the classroom and the inspiration. Our small classes (8 students maximum) will meet in a private wooded area with the necessary infrastructure for staying dry and comfortable. Fire will warm cold days. The experience of being in a circle out in nature crafting with our hands connects us to our ancestral roots - to the lived experience of all of our ancestors.

Students may enroll in one or both sessions. Any student in both sessions would have the opportunity to get more in-depth with the current art practice to further reinforce the skill. This option is only recommended for students passionate about deepening their crafting skills.
