Handmade High Carbon Steel Knives High carbon steel knives are prized for their sharpness, durability, and craftsmanship. To keep them in optimal condition, proper care and maintenance are essential. Always hand wash your knife immediately after use with warm water and mild dish soap. Avoid putting it in the dishwasher, as the harsh detergents and high heat can damage the blade and handle. Dry the knife thoroughly with a soft cloth to prevent moisture contact. High carbon steel is prone to rust and corrosion. To prevent this, regularly oil the blade with a food-safe mineral oil or camellia oil, especially if you notice any dull spots or after cleaning. Store the knife in a dry place, preferably in a knife sheath or box. Maintain the sharpness of your knife by honing it regularly with a whetstone or honing rod. Proper sharpening ensures precision and extends the knifeās lifespan. Keep it away from humid environments and other metals that could cause corrosion. Use the knife on appropriate cutting surfaces such as wood or plastic cutting boards. If rust spots appear, gently remove them with fine-grit sandpaper or fine steel wool, then reapply protective oil. Regular maintenance minimizes the risk of rust formation.
